Maharry’s practice focuses on representing individuals and entities on appeal and defending governmental entities and their officials and employees in a wide variety of civil rights and state tort claims. Maharry’s appellate practice dates back to when he worked for the Kansas Appellate Defenders Officer, handling hundreds of felony appeals in the Kansas Appellate Courts. Since joining Fisher Patterson, Maharry has continued to handle appeals in Kansas as well as the appellate courts of Missouri and the Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
In addition, Maharry works extensively with governmental entities, including cities, police and sheriff departments and correctional institutions defending against various, constitutional, federal civil rights and state tort claims. His work involves extensive motion practice covering a variety of issues ranging from claims of excessive force and illegal seizures during police-citizen encounters to claims by inmates of inadequate medical care or treatment in jail.
